Here Comes......

Well, here he is. The Easter gorilla has been caught, yet again, by the sunrise on Easter morning and he still hasn't finished his rounds!

It's hard work, you know, being the Easter gorilla! Who can blame him for taking a few minutes here and there to rest his feet and have just a little snack?

So, if, when you go and hunt for the Easter eggs he's hidden for you, you'll probably find a couple that are a little cracked. He's prone to be all thumbs. And if your chocolate bunny is missing an ear, you'll know the Easter gorilla has been there!

But remember! It's Easter! And the Son has risen!

Inspiration Avenue Challege: The World of Fantasy

☺ Here comes the Tooth Gorilla! ☺

Many years ago, ( I am now old enough to say,'many years ago!') wben my children were very little, I came up with a way to celebrate joyous occasions in our house without leading them to misconceptions about truth and stories.

The tooth fairy, Cupid, the Easter Bunny and Santa were concepts I chose not to teach my children. I wanted them to be very certain of the difference between truth and make believe. But I still wanted them to be able to join in the fun related to the occasions surrounding these special events.

Thus was born the "Tooth Gorilla"! When you lose a tooth you put it under your pillow and the tooth gorilla will come while you are asleep and leave you a crumpled up dollar bill. (Gorillas are not real careful with money and often carry it in their tight fisted hands.)

Next came the Easter Gorilla, who hides your easter eggs. You will be certain to find a few cracked ones. (Gorillas don't have very good small motor skills, so they often drop the eggs while hiding them.) Sometimes he comes the night before and sometimes he comes while we are in church, remembering with joy how Jesus rose from the dead.

And, of course, there is the Valentine Gorilla who will show up sometime when no one is looking and leave a battered valentine and a box of chocolates. (One or two candies are sure to be missing, since the valentine gorilla has a sweet tooth and can not help himself!)

Odd? Quirky? Effective? For us, yes!

Next, I am working on Santa's Helper. He will be the focal point of my Christmas Card this year.

What do you think? Should I do a series of greeting cards along this line?

Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Big happenings the world of nature lately!

Big happenings in the world of nature lately!

Last week a beautiful (well, kinda) snapping turtle momma came and laid her eggs right by my front door! It's nice to know that critters feel so safe with us! So, sometime between August 6 and September 9, we should have little snapper babies running all over the yard!

Then, on Thursday, while driving down a busy road by our home, we noticed cars stopping and swerving off the road. As we got closer, we saw that it was a REALLY big turtle, right there in the middle of the north bound lane!

I jumped out and ran over. Tom yelled out the window, "Be careful! It's a snapping turtle!"

When got to it I saw that it was not a snapper, but a painted turtle, THE SIZE OF A DINNER PLATE! I gently pushed him (or her) off the roadway and we went merrily on our way. Thank you, God, that I got to help one of your creatures!

And, lastly, last night as I was preparing for bed,
I was just climbing in between the sheets, when
I heard a frantic kind beating noise coming from
behind my head board. I'm thinking, "Oh great! There's a mouse in my bedroom! But it got really loud and out came this HUGE moth!
I'm talking "BIG" here! Scared the living
daylights out of me! So brave and
courageous hubby caught it and put it outside.
I really hope it lives! I looked it up this
morning and it's a Promethea Moth. His
wing span had to be 5 inches across!
I'm not kidding! But noone can figure out
how it got in to my bedroom, let alone my
house, with out being seen by someone!

So far this year has been such a treasure chest of wildlife encounters!

I can't wait to see who turns up next!
