Who Plants a Seed..... Inspiration Avenue Challenge: HOPE

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

"The Between Time", by Judy Goddard

Who plants a seed beneath the sod,
and waits to see,
believes in God.
attributed to GK Chesterton

When I plant a seed, I hope it will grow. When I watch for it to grow I have faith that it will grow. Although I do not see the seed open , I am certain life is there.

There are lots of things in life like that.

Can you think of any?

National Attention Paid to my Canvas Growth Charts!

National attention is being paid to my
Personalized, Canvas Growth Charts!

Sarah Bode' lives in the greater Seatle, WA area and hosts a web site called,

http://northsound.macaronikid.com/

It's an e-newletter that is sent out to subscribers who have children, listing all the fun, cool stuff that will be going on the Seatle area for the coming week. All the listings point to children and family oriented activities. It's a super resource and has a large subscriber list. If you go to North Shore Macaroni Kids you'll see the interview as well as an advertisement that I designed.

The neat thing about Macaroni Kids is that there are websites all over the country offering the same wonderful local information. You can visit their "about us" and see if you think that becoming a host is something you might enjoy.

These are the charts that I sent to Sarah for inspection. I graciously sent them off with her son's names on top. (Needless to say, she was thrilled)

And here's the advertisement I made.

It's so neat when someone from so far away takes the time to say wonderful things about my work!
I certainly that the same kinds things will happen for all of you all well. (that is, if they haven't already!)

Very Nearly a Nightmare

My hand painted flower cane

I'm working on my computer, editing photos in preparation for listing new items in my Etsy shop. All of a sudden, one of the photos in the folder I'm using disappears! Poof!

"What the heck was that?" I say to myself. Instead of the photo there's an
empty box made up of dotted lines. I double click the dotted line box and nothing happens.

So I stare at the screen, trying to puzzle out what just happened, when all of a sudden three more photos disappear! Poof, poof, poof!

Now my heart is racing and I'm fantically trying to get the photos back and, poof! poof! two more are gone.

It is at this moment that I realize, " I am NOT
dreaming!" So I close the window, figuring that this will stop pics from going.... where?

Every time I open a folder, more and more pics are gone. And now I'm beginning to panic. I shut the program down.

Out comes the address book, open it up to A and dial the number for Apple Computer customer help.

Marvin, (I'm not kidding) helps me salvidge the remaining photos and strongly suggests that I purchase an "exterior hard drive". Obviously, he states, a flash drive will be totally inadiquate to the task
of backing up my photos.
BTW: He had no idea why my photos disappeared
and he doubts I'll ever get them back. 80(

So, here's the questions;

1. Do you back up your files and photos? Or do you always think that you'll get to it, just not right now?

2. If you do back up your files, what do you use, a flash drive? a CD, an exterior hard drive?

3. Why do you use the back up system you've chosen, rather than some other way?

My solution?
I found an empty flash drive, went into my iphoto library and copied every pic. And let me tell you, I have thousands of them! And they all fit. And if I need more space,

I'll get more flash drives!

"Quit Your Day Job"

Now that I have a new computer, since January, anyway, and now that I have wyfy in my house I can participate in Etsy Virtual Labs! Last night I sat in on my second "Quit Your Day Job" live chat.

For those not in the know, After signing in to Etsy, click on Community and then on Virtual Labs. You"ll see a number of colorful boxes with names and times of labs listed in each one.

When you enter a lab room it looks just like stadium seating and when you click on an empty square seat
your avatar will appear there.
Then you can type in questions and the host of the lab will answer as many as she/he can in the hour allotted.

But here's my very tine beef; both of the sessions I sat in on
were hosted by jewelry makers. am not a jewelry maker and, although by jewelry makers. I am not a jewelry maker and although I was able glean lots of ideas, I did
not feel particularly connected to the host.
I hope that in the future the "Quit Your Day Job" lab will be hosted by a range of artists. As a matter of fact, I will go in the forums and post a request to Etsy Admin. today.

Custom Canvas Growth Charts!

Last year I started making growth charts. You know, you hang it on the wall and measure your child's growth, inch by inch, and then, one day if you move away, you can take the chart with you and leave the door frame behind!

I had made them years ago out of wood and was selling them on a website where stay at home moms could make some money. But, you know, wooden planks, 6 inches wide by 5 feet long, are not an easy thing to mail! So I didn't last long with that venture.

Now I paint the charts onto heavy cotton canvas, as if they were floor cloths. They are sturdy, well constructed and flexible. That way I can roll them up and mail them in a small box.

Here are the charts I have in stock in my Etsy store:

You can purchase one of these charts at www.JudyAGoddard.Etsy.com

They are on my shop page as well as in the section called,

"Canvas Growth Charts"

I also make custom charts for folks.

If you think you might like me make a special chart for some special boy or girl, (orboth!) You can check out my other website;
http://www.measureformeasuregrowthcharts.com/ There you'll find several examples of custom charts that I've made. Either way, you can contact me and we'll figure out which personalized chart would be best for you!
